Electronics giant
NEC has teamed up
with digital technology firm
Telegent
Systems to launch a high-definition, low-power mobile TV platform.
The platform combines NEC's application processor with Telegent's SureTrak
technology.
The result, say the developers, is an HD multimedia platform that allows up
to four and a half hours of viewing time on mobile phones.
Masakazu Yamashina, general manager of NEC's mobile systems division, said:
"This will help mobile phone manufacturers more easily develop handsets with
mobile TV capabilities."
The two companies will unveil the product at next week's 3GSM mobile
conference in Barcelona, where it will be targeted at free-to-air mobile TV
providers.
