Free Wifi web access is available along 22km of the Thames, courtesy of an
advertising-sponsored mesh network.
The Online-4-Free.com system is the result of a partnership
between the company called Free-Hotspot.com, which runs a a site listing places
where you can get access without charge, and European mesh network specialist
Meshhopper.
Access is said to be available on boats, riverside walks, and in restaurants
and hotels. Users will be asked to watch of 15-30 second advert every 15
minutes. online-4-free.com now provides free wireless internet access from
Millbank to Greenwich
Dan Toomey, chief executive of
Free-hotspot.com, said the service could be extended to
other cities in Europe.
Nigel Wesley, chief executive of MeshHopper, said: “The market asked us for
free Wifi and we listened.”
