In PCW's labs, our staff have over 20 years of combined testing experience. We know all the perils and pitfalls of practical benchmarking, and we contribute to the development of industry-standard benchmarks through our full membership of Bapco, the non-profit benchmark consortium.

You can see the full specifications of each notebook in this group test here.

PCmark05 graph

In PCmark05 it's no surprise to see Samsung lead the way, thanks to its fastest-on-test Core 2 Duo T7500 processor.

PCmark05 CPU test

The trend is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the heavier a notebook, the faster it goes.

PCmark05 hard drive results

In the PCmark05 hard drive test the Portégé's Samsung-built solid state hard disk leads the way, thanks to access times 10 times faster than mechanical hard disks.

Cinebench 9.5 results

The Lifebook P7230's score is very low because it only has one core. We expect the refreshed model to score twice as highly in Cinebench 9.5, thanks to a dual-core processor.
