Technologists at Fujitsu Siemens Computers are predicting that the computing
power within a PC will have increased a million-fold in 25 years time.
Fujitsu Siemens' senior technology strategiest, Dave Prtichard has recently
released a series of crystal ball-gazing predictions, highlighting how far the
IT industry will change in the next quarter of a century.
"IT technology is still in its infancy, and if likened to the development of
mankind, we have yet to discover fire," said Pritchard.
If Moore's Law continues to hold, PC's in 2033 will be a million times more
powerful than today's systems, he noted. Similarly, bandwidth capacity would
increase 200,000 times.
"The ordinary PC will be running at the equivalent of three petahertz, it’ll
have 100,000 cores or more, a petabyte of memory, half an exabyte of storage and
connect to the internet with a bandwidth of over a quarter of a terabyte," he
added.
