Blogs are like online diaries, and have traditionally been used for the personal ramblings of aspiring poets, novelists and journalists.

But now major international corporations like Microsoft, Dell and Google have launched their own blogs and experts say it could set the trend for UK companies to follow suit.

Paul Marshall, at Dean Statham accountants and business advisors, said blogs could become a natural extension of a company website: 'Blogs can serve a useful purpose in that they can inject personality behind a brand, offer a forum for management to air views and opinions and keep customers or clients up to date with new products and services.

'A blog is updated regularly, often far more than a website is and, if done properly, can be engaging, witty and inspire loyal readers.'
