Domain Verification Bureau's website pulled, as ISP responds to complaints

The company at the heart of complaints about domain name sales scams has had its website closed down, following sustained pressure by Network News, its readers and victims of its sales techniques.

Domain Verification Bureau's website has been shut down by its ISP, Flyer Internet, after it received a flood of damning complaints.

Our stories about the dubious sales tactics employed by some of these domain name resellers are now spreading through the web like wild fire and alerting potential victims.

Increasingly, we are being contacted by companies that do not subscribe to Network News, but have discovered our stories after they have been contacted by dubious domain name resellers using high-pressure tactics, and then searched the web for information. With luck, dubious domain name resellers are now losing business as more potential victms wise up to their spiel.

From the tone of Flyer's reply to one complaint, it is obvious that Network News is not alone in being incensed with the repeated scams of these domain name registration companies, including Domain Verification Bureau.

Keith Fearnly of Tribal Data Solutions sent an email to Flyer Internet, DomainVB's ISP and got the following reply.

"Hello,

We have now closed down their web-site, as we have had other complaints. I would be interested to see any evidence that they are trying to pass themselves off as representing Flyer Internet.

It seems people with powers to make at least some difference, however small, are finally taking notice of the situation. But despite this, Fearnly was cautious.

"Their web-site is closed down, but they may, of course, still be trading by calling people anyway," he said.
