Better word processor software sought
Q Having been brought up with the various Office versions, I
find Ability Write altogether inferior to Word. Do you think it would be better
to replace it with, say, Works 7? We are trying to keep the cost down, and
Office is quite expensive these days.

A Ability Office is excellent value for money, but it can’t match Microsoft’s feature list. Have a look at Openoffice.Org, which is free and has impressive specifications.
If you want the ultimate in Word compatibility, go for Microsoft Works Suite, which includes Word 2002.
