Capable and free web editor

Tim Smith, Computeract!ve 20 Nov 2007

If you want to make the next step from some of the web editors aimed at beginners, Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition is worth a look, especially as it is available free of charge.

Web pages can be edited in a designer view or through the source code itself. There are lots of tools to make it easy to edit the HTML code, including code completion.

Visual Web Developer is also good for creating dynamic websites that run on Microsoft hosting packages. There are are a number of templates using this technology that are suitable for home users, including a personal website for sharing photos.

You can create user accounts for friends and family to enable them to access photos that are not publically available. A demo can be found here. There is a similar template for clubs and societies that can include dates from Outlook.

This is simply a download stub that will download the files required to install Visual Web Developer. The total download can be as much as 400MB.
