Webcam aims to show its fair trade credentials

United Pepper is launching products it claims are fair trade electronics.

It says 70 per cent of the materials and workmanship conform to fair trade principles.

This means assemblers in Vietnam get a better wage for their craft, as well as a freedom of speech in the workplace - something we often take for granted.

For now, though, Oxfam and the Fair Trade Association don't recognise fair trade electronics, so it's each to their own whether to buy one from John Lewis, where they'll go on sale soon.

The 1.3-megapixel webcam produced a squashed image with lots of noise, but its cotton and sand bag design and personal name (Lili) are rather cute.
