Kodak claims 'half-price printing'

Easyshare all-in-one printers compared with competitors

Clive Akass, Personal Computer World 24 Oct 2007

New tests show print costs of Kodak's Easyshare 5300 and 5500 all-in-one inkjet printers are half those of rival products, the company claims.

It commissioned testing lab QualityLogic to compare the ink cost-per-page of the two models with 11 rivals using ISO/IEC 24711 standard tests.

The Kodaks produced a standard black-and-white page for £0.016, compared with an average £0.043 for the rivals, the lab reported. Epson's Stylus Photo RX560 cost £0.032 per page and HP's C4280 £0.067.

For every £5 spent, the Kodaks produced 318 mono pages compared with an average 117 pages, 107 pages of colour graphivs with text compared with an average 54, and 78 10x15cm photos as opposed to 23. See here for more details

PCW's Paul Monkton gave the £199.99 Easyshare 5500 a coveted five stars for value for money in his review of the machine, which can scan, copy and fax as well as print. It has an automatic document feeder and supports duplex printing, which will reduce paper costs. The £139.99 Easyshare 5300 lacks the ADF, duplex support and fax.
