Q I find that when I access some websites the text is so small that I struggle to read it. Is there any way of adjusting this? I have tried the Magnifier but this just blurs the text.
Denise Stephens

A You can adjust the size of text in Internet Explorer 7 by clicking on the Page menu, which is located towards the top right of the window, below the search box. Click Zoom to make the whole page bigger, including the images. Otherwise, click Text Size in the same menu, then choose a size, from Largest to Smallest (it’s set to Medium by default, so pick Larger or Largest).

In previous versions of Internet Explorer click the View menu, then choose an option from the Text Size submenu. If you’re using Firefox, click the View menu, then Text Size, and click Increase (or hold down the Ctrl key and press the plus key once). Repeat if it’s still too small. Alternatively, the Zoom tool in the Opera web browser works the same way as the one in Internet Explorer – it’s found in the View menu, under Zoom.

If you find text on the computer too hard to read in general, enlarge it with the Control Panel. Hold down the Start button on the keyboard and press D to clear the screen, then right-click a blank area of the Desktop and click Properties. Then click the Settings tab, the Advanced button and the General tab. Select ‘Large size (120 DPI)’ from the DPI Setting dropdown list and click OK, then OK again.

If you’re using Windows Vista, click Start, then Control Panel. Double-click Personalization, then select ‘Adjust font size (DPI)’ on the left. Click Continue if prompted, then select the 120 dpi option from the dialogue box that appears, and click OK. Follow any prompts that appear – you may need to restart the computer. Once restarted, you should find that everything is bigger and easier to read.
