When it comes to hi-fi quality sound, PC owners are sold short; most PC speaker systems are made of plastic and connected using poor-quality wires.
We saw our first set of Edifer speakers in the last issue and these also go the extra mile in terms of quality but stop well short on price.
The package consists of one subwoofer and five satellite speakers. The huge subwoofer looks like a stocky coffee table.
The satellites are ruggedly built from MDF and are connected to the subwoofer's back panel, which also acts as a junction box for the sound.
All the appropriate cables are supplied for connecting to your sound card, although the lack of colour coding makes it a challenge.
You'll need a 5.1 sound card in your PC and, once hooked up, the volume of the speakers can be controlled individually using the supplied remote control rather than software - a nice touch.
These speakers are great value; only the size of the subwoofer and complex set-up count against them.
