While 5.1 speakers are perfect for engrossing yourself in surround sound-enabled films and games, they're not much use if you haven't got the room. Having wires trailing around the computer area isn't the best solution, so many people are investing in a decent set of 2.1 speakers instead.
The Logitech Z-2200s aren't cheap but the sound quality is second to none. The set consists of a large subwoofer, which sits under the desk, and two smaller satellite speakers that can either stand on their own or be wall-mounted.
Perhaps the most important feature, however, is the THX-certificate. THX is a standard awarded to audio products that meet a certain quality level. You can be sure that anything with a THX certificate will be of superior quality.
And that's just the case with these speakers. The bass levels are thumping without being muffled and the satellite speakers are crisp and clear. The only downside we found is the lack of a line-in port on the remote control unit - we thought this was an extremely handy feature when reviewing the similar Creative I-Trigue L3500 speakers (issue 150). Apart from that, this is the best example of a 2.1 speaker system we have seen.
