Netbooks, or mini-notebooks as they are sometimes called, are becoming
increasingly popular because they are so portable; Asus and Acer already have
models on the market.
The
Toshiba
NB100 has an 8.9in widescreen and LED backlighting, which is said to conserve
energy. It also comes with a low-power Intel Atom processor for longer battery
life.
People can choose from Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, which comes with
Microsoft Works 8.5, or Linux Ubuntu 8.04, which is preconfigured with
Openoffice 2.4. Both have 1GB of memory and 120GB of storage for saving files
and documents.
The netbook has a Wifi connection and also an Ethernet port and a
0.3-megapixel webcam.
There are three USB ports and, with Toshiba's Sleep-and-Charge technology,
users charge external hardware, such as personal media players and mobile
phones, when the notebook is in sleep mode.
