Digital Vault is a fairly simple program that aims to make encryption easy, that is, it makes it possible for users to secure their documents and other data from prying eyes.

Once Digital Vault is installed, the first thing it does is to update itself over the internet.

Once open, there are two choices. The first is to encrypt a single file, which can then be distributed or e-mailed.

To view the encrypted file, other users will need the free Digital Vault Reader, which can be downloaded from the StompSoft website.

This is a good feature, although it’s one that’s also common in various compression programs, so it’s really nothing new.

The second way to use the program is to create a vault. This is a password-protected folder into which users drag and drop files that are automatically encrypted.

This is another useful feature, and one that can come in very handy if your PC is also used by others. It can be set to use the same master password as the program itself, or each vault can have its own password.

This is good idea, although if you forget the password you will lose any data that’s stored in the vault, so be careful.

In all, Digital Vault’s encryption is suitable for most home users, and the program is easy to use. There's also a free Digital Vault demo that can be downloaded from the Stompsoft website.
