Huge deposits of natural quartz have been discovered in Salil, in the Sultanate of Oman. The deposits, which it is estimated will last for 200 years, could turn Oman into an important player in the global processor market. The Omani authorities are negotiating with Russia and Norway to work on a project producing 6,000 tonnes of polysilicate per year ? enough to feed around 20% of the world market.
