Tory leader David Cameron used Scotland Yard's online crime reporting system to report the theft of his bike.

The system allows the public to report non-emergency crime to the police such as minor thefts and car damage without taking up valuable police manpower and emergency lines.

"I've reported it online on the new reporting system but I'm not holding my breath," Cameron told reporters.

Cameron's bike was stolen from outside a Tesco store in Portobello Road, London, last night after he went in to buy groceries.

The crime reporting service was launched in April last year.
