PGP seeks UK channel partners

Encryption specialist PGP Corporation is back in business and looking to expand its network of channel partners in the UK.

PGP's encryption software became an unofficial standard before being mothballed by Network Associates in March. The rights have been bought by former employees and PGP 8.0 will be out before the end of the year.

PGP 8.0 will include a freeware version for non-commercial use, a single user personal package and an enterprise version. XP support will be built in and a Lotus Notes module is also being launched.

"We've kept most of our original team as well as the bulk of the channel," said PGP president Phillip Dunkelberger. "Nevertheless we are looking for new partners, preferably those with a security focus, although some training will be available for those without direct PGP experience."

The company has already appointed Intellect Services as its main distributor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Details for other channel partners wanting to get involved can be found here.

Paul Ayers, sales director of Intellect Services, said: "We're already seeing lots of demand for the new software. Our sales force is being called in by senior directors who are keen to get on board and new channel partners are always welcome, particularly if they're strong on security."

A public beta of the new software is available here and has had over 300,000 downloads in the last fortnight. It stops operation after 6 December, by which time the full version should be available.
