Attractively finished in a futuristic magnesium alloy veneer, the Samsung TLC 1200 offers internal capabilities to match its stylish design.
With a 1.2GHz Pentium M, 60GB hard disk and 512MB of Ram, this one is not just a pretty face. Exploiting the benefits of Centrino technology it scored 128 in Sysmark, and lasted one hour 45 minutes under intensive battery testing without getting uncomfortably hot. This pales in comparison to the four hours achieved by Toshiba's R100 last month, but it's not bad for a 1.2GHz machine
While the system won't win any awards for its graphics capabilities, an integrated 64MB graphics controller allows resolutions of up to 1,024 x 768 to be pumped through its 12.1in display. Screen quality is adequate, but not the best.
The TLC 1200 has a standard V.92 modem, but also caters for wireless network users with an integrated Intel 802.11b wireless Lan adaptor. Further connectivity can be achieved through two USB2 and one Ethernet port and a Firewire connector. There's also an integrated 3-in-1 media reader for Memory Stick, SD (Secure Digital) and MMC (Multimedia Card) cards.
The docking station holds an extra pair of USB2 ports, a mini Firewire link-up, serial and parallel connections, a VGA output, a PS/2 connection and floppy and DVD/CD-RW drives.
While it's not particularly powerful, the Samsung's features give it an edge over many Centrino notebooks.
