If you're looking for a notebook with a bit more power than an ultraportable, the latest desktop replacement system from AJP might be more up your street.
With an Intel Pentium 4 HT running at 3GHz it's not short of processing power, and 512MB of Ram means there's plenty of room for applications to run.
It also features a 15in TFT screen with a native resolution of 1,400 x 1,050, as well as a 60GB hard drive and an internal dual-format, but not dual-layer, DVD writer. ATI's Radeon 9700 chipset takes care of the graphics.
AJP has added a few extras, such as an integrated webcam above the display and a six-in-one card reader, but you won't find Bluetooth or Wifi support as standard. PC Card adapters can rectify this, but at extra cost.
If you want a notebook to use on the go, forget about the D410EV. In our battery life test it only managed to stay alive for 35 minutes. This poor performance is due to a combination of ATI 9700 graphics, 15in display and, the 3GHz Intel processor, but we were hoping for a battery life a little closer to the one-hour mark.
Desktop replacement notebooks rarely weigh less than 3kg, and this AJP is no exception at 3.3kg. We've tested heavier, but you'll soon feel its weight if you carry this around.
Including the likes of a 3GHz P4, ATI 9700 graphics and a DVD writer, AJP has done well to price the D410EV so low. Just watch out for the battery life and lack of integrated wireless support.
