The new flagship of Fujitsu Siemens' premium rage of TFT monitors has some impressive specifications.

Its wide, 24in display delivers deep, rich colours with plenty of brightness and contrast, while its 6ms grey-to-grey response time keeps video and gaming fast and smear free.

The maximum quoted brightness of 500cd/m2 is almost certainly too much for normal desktop use, but if you're going to use this monitor to watch videos the extra brightness will come in handy.

There's no HDMI connector for connecting high definition (HD) sources, although the 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution is certainly up to the task and, with the right converter cables, it will be fine for non-protected content.

Discrete audio ports are included to drive the monitor's 3w stereo speakers.

Composite, component and S-video inputs provide a high level of connectivity, complemented by a rather sophisticated picture-in-picture facility in which the embedded picture has its own image adjustment controls.

A four-port USB hub is provided with two ports to the rear and a further pair conveniently located at the left-hand side.

We found the display quality to be bright and crisp with very good colour reproduction. It's a joy to use for all types of work as well as gaming and multimedia.

The substantial size of this monitor is matched by its considerable weight. It's mounted on a very sturdy stand that tilts, swivels, raises and lowers, including tilting backward into a lectern-style position.

The supplied Display View software lets you take control of all of the monitor's settings without resorting to the front-panel controls.

One feature we were very pleased to see on a widescreen monitor is built-in image scaling that preserves the aspect ratio of the input.

This means if you're viewing 4:3 content or playing a PC game that doesn't support widescreen, the monitor will maintain the original format, displaying black bars to the left and right.

Also supplied is Liquid View, which instantly changes the size of desktop icons and toolbars for increased readability at high resolutions.
