Overall The Viewsonic VP2330wb is a good desktop monitor with a high resolution and excellent software support. The best match for 1080p HD content

Unlike Samsung’s SM215TW and Sony’s MFM-HT205, the Viewsonic VP2330wb does not try to be anything other than a premium-quality desktop monitor.

With a viewable diagonal of 23in, it’s the largest in Viewsonic’s range although it’s an inch smaller than most of its competition at this resolution.

It’s the combination of size and resolution that sets this display apart. In the 16:10 aspect ratio world of PC displays, 1,920x1,200 is the closest you will come to the 1,920x1,080 of 1080p HD resolution.

So, if you want to display 1080p content without downscaling and can’t stomach the added expense or the sheer scale of the Dell 3007WFP, the VP2330wb is your best bet.

Fitted with a very ergonomic stand, the VP2330wb supports height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments. When pivoted, it’s intelligent enough to keep the on-screen menus upright, avoiding neck strain.

It also contains a four-port USB hub and both VGA and DVI inputs which support picture-in-picture modes, although no multimedia inputs such as component or composite video are provided and there’s no provision for audio.

We were generally pleased with the VP2330wb, its MVA panel delivering good viewing angles and smooth greyscales without visible banding.

However the colours appeared a little less saturated than we would have liked. Although the maximum brightness is rated at ‘only’ 250cd/m2, our review sample was measured at over 325cd/m2 which more than adequate enough for watching movies.

The VP2330wb comes with Viewsonic’s Perfect Suite software that provides easy mouse-driven control over the display’s configuration options as well as colour calibration and asset-management functions.

It comes with an enhanced pixel warranty that goes beyond the normal ISO 13406-2 Class II specification by guaranteeing zero ‘always-on’ pixel faults.
