Personal Video Recorders (PVR) have come a long way over the past few years, but now we are about to see the next leap in the technology, with them being integrated directly into TVs.

At CES Unveiled, a pre-show briefing before CES itself kicks off on Thursday, Seagate showed off its latest 2.5inch hard drive, which is being used not only in the Xbox 360 but also in LCD TVs.

The company is working with Humax, already well-known for its PVRs, to integrate its LD25 disk directly into the chassis of Humax's newest LCD TVs.

This will give the TV classic PVR functions such as the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward, plus customers will be able to record programmes onto its 40GB hard drive, and connect it to their PC if they want to transfer their recordings.

Rob Pait, Seagate's director of global consumer electronics marketing, expected other manufacturers to begin integrating PVR functions in flat panel TVs this year.

He added: 'It's about eliminating wires and clutter and making the products a lot easier for customers to use.'

The hard drive itself looks like a laptop disk, except it lacks some features, such as anti-shock, to reduce its cost.
