More than 80 per cent of UK software developers like listening to music while
they code, voting
Coldplay as
their number one band.
According to some
Microsoft research,
Coldplay’s Yellow is the number one tune for the nation’s coders, followed by
tunes from bands U2, Oasis and Stereophonics.
At the other end of the scale, almost 30 per cent of those surveyed said rap
or hip hop was the most off-putting music to code by.
Other annoying genres included country music (12 per cent), ambient music (9
per cent) and opera (8 per cent).
To help coders stay productive,
HMV
Digital has decided to use the research results to put together some
playlists for developers. The tunes will be available soon at its online radio
site
here.
