AMD's first dual core chip for laptops,
the Turion
64 X2, was launched in May and Acer's new laptops will take full advantage
of the improved multi-tasking performance it offers.
The Ferrari 5000 is a series of powerful desktop replacement machines
weighing in at 3kg. Its screen measures 15.4in, powered by an ATI Mobility
Radeon X1600 graphics card and up to 2GB of fast DDR Ram.
Hard drives of up to 160GB in size are supplied along with a dual layer DVD
writer. Acer will change this to a
HD-DVD
drive as soon as they become available.
Features such as a
high-definition
multimedia interface port, along with a 5-in-1 card reader, Bluetooth VoIP
phone, Gigabit Ethernet and a built-in 1.3megapixel camera come as standard.
The ultraportable 1000 series, marketed at the 'image-sensitive professional
users' has a 12.1in screen and weighs just 1.55kg.
Both series are strongly branded with Ferrari insignia and are housed in a
carbon fibre casing.
Acer will demonstrate the 5000 and 1000 series at
the Computex
exhibition in Taiwan this week. Price details have not been announced yet.
