Hewlett-Packard is aiming to increase its consumer profile by launching two PCs that will allow consumers to control Windows Vista via a touch-screen interface instead of the mouse.

HP claimed that the new TouchSmart PC is the first all-in-one PC based on Windows Vista. Users will be able to access applications and surf the Net using some new customisable interface technology called HP SmartCenter.

It also includes SmartCalendar for PhotoSmart Touch. This is the first time that HP has used touch-screen technology in its PC line-up and is drive for more consumer business comes as Dell continues to heavily market its consumer and XPS gaming and entertainment PCs.

The system comes with a 19in high definition (HD) widescreen display, Vista remote control and personal video recorder with HD and SD TV programming. HP said the new system allows for 'walk-up computing,' whereby users will be able to quickly and intuitively access what they need on a PC.

The system will be powered by a dual-core Turion 64 X2 TL-52 processor and come with a generous 2GB of memory, a 320GB hard disk drive, in-built 1.3 mega-pixel webcam, nVidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics card and DVD±RW / DVD-RAM drive. It will also boast a wireless keyboard and mouse, as well as a stylus for the touch-screen.

It ships in the US first at the end of the month but no UK dates were avaialble.
