Large UK businesses are avoiding Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system,
according to new research.
Just one business out of 100 polled said it would be rolling out Vista
immediately, claimed an independent survey commissioned by
Camwood.
More than half (58 per cent) said they have no plans to move to the operating
system in the future, with this rising to 68 per cent in organisations with more
than 3,000 employees.
Compatibility issues with existing applications were cited as the main reason
for not moving to Vista. Companies said this was a more important issue than the
cost of upgrading. Complexity and time to install Vista were cited as minor
reasons.
Chief technology officers and IT directors believe they are the most likely
to influence their organisations to Vista, while just five per cent believe
Microsoft has the most influence.
The research follows Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer's
warning
against Vista sales optimism. He said: "Some of the revenue forecasts I have
seen for Windows Vista in fiscal 2008 are overly aggressive."
However, one glimmer of hope for Microsoft is that Windows XP sales
were
also slow during the first two months of its lifetime, selling fewer copies
than Windows 98.
