Calls for a UK English edition of Windows Vista have been voiced through a
petition on the Prime Minister's website.
The request cites fears that a whole generation of children using Vista will
take Americanised spelling as writ.
At the time of writing,
the petitiononly has 31 signatories.
It says: "Although Microsoft's new Vista is issued in 34 languages, there
does not appear to be a UK English edition. For example, Sweden's eight million
population have a Swedish language edition.
"I have just witnessed the UK edition (for 60 million population) and it is
completely American in its spelling; Welcome Center, Color, Program, Favorites,
Security Center and Personalize are examples.
"Once this is introduced into schools, a whole generation will grow up
assuming these are correct spellings for this country. Please ask Bill Gates for
a specific UK edition."
