Intel has unveiled a system-on-a-chip built round an Xscale processor and
designed for consumer-electronics devices such as set-top-boxes and networked
media players.
The CE 2110 puts a 1GHz XScale core processor, Mpeg2 and H.264 hardware video
decoders, a DDR2 memory interface, and 2D/3D graphics accelerators onto a single
chip.
William O. Leszinske, general manager of Intel’s consumer electronics group,
said the chip was part of a bid to “accelerate the availability of a new range
of exciting Internet-based information and services, and video entertainment
experiences” in the home.”
Asus has already adopted the chip for a set-top box. CY Feng, vice president
of its broadband business unit, said it offered the performance need for
advanced aplications while providing headroom for future applications.
The CE 2110 includes a 1 GHz, and is supported by a modular software
development environment.
