Medion is to launch an ultra-mobile PC in May – initially online but later through supermarkets.

The RIM 1000, which previewed at Cebit earlier this year, has a 6.5in screen and a slide-out Qwerty keyboard with calculator-style keys.

It weighs 740g, measures 19 x 12.1 x 2.83 cm, and its low-drain C7-M 770 processor helps its battery last for up to five hours between charges, Medion says.

It packs a 30GB hard disk, 11g Wifi, Bluetooth 2.0, an SD-IO slot, a webcam, and a Firewire and two USB ports.

It will cost £799.99 inc Vat from Medion's online shop, though the company says the price may drop when the device hits the high street later this year.

Comment: Button-down keyboard looks hard work
