Apple
has updated its trendy Macbook range of notebook computers with faster
processors, bigger hard disk drives and more memory.
The three new Macbooks sport Intel Core 2 Duo processors ranging from 2GHz to
2.16GHz, 1GB of DDR 2 memory as standard and 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drives,
ranging in size from 80GB to 160GB.
The Macbooks are 1in thick and all sport a 13.3in display with a native
resolution of 1280 x 800. Optional upgrades include 2GB of memory and a 200GB
hard disk drive.
All three models feature a built-in iSight video camera for video
conferencing and support 802.11n wireless networking, which Apple claimed offers
up to two and a half times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g. They
will also come with the innovative Magsafe Power Adapter which disconnects
quickly when the power cable is accidentally tugged, without damaging the
notebook.
“The Macbook is a huge hit with customers, and is one of the reasons that Mac
sales are growing three times faster than PC sales,” said Philip Schiller,
Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. “The new MacBook
is faster, has even more memory and storage, and is an ideal notebook for
customers’ growing library of digital music, photos and movies.”
The three models comprise two white and one, new glossy black model and are
priced at £699, £829 and £949, respectively.
