A social-networking site launched today aims to connect people across to help
them learn each other's languages.
If you sign up for
Voxswap
you specify which language or languages you speak, and which you are trying to
learn.
You can browse the profiles of other Voxswappers to find people who match
your needs: an English speaker wanting to learn French, for example, might pair
up with a French person wanting to learn English.
Registration is free and the site features chat rooms and forums, as well as
its own email system. to get people communicating.
Users can embellish their profiles with video, pictures, tags and other
information.
The site also offers a multi-language virtual keyboard and a multi-language
news feed, and hooks into Google translator.
It was founded by freelance journalist Sean Hargrave and his wife Nicole,
when he was looking on the web for a way to practise his rusty German. "I
couldn’t find the site I was looking for, so I decided to build it,” he said.
