More vendors offer Windows Home Servers

But Medion holds off until Microsoft can fix data corruption flaw

Belinea has started selling its first Windows Home Server just days after Fujitsu Siemens did the same.

Belinea’s O.center is the first WHS not to come in a dark chassis, instead using a white and orange colour scheme. It uses an AMD Sempron LE-1100 processor running at 1.6GHz, with 512MB DDR2 Ram and a 500GB hard drive for €549 (about £420 – UK pricing yet to be confirmed).

Fujitsu Siemens’ Scaleo Home Server 1500 is its new entry-level £399 (inc. Vat) WHS, with a 500GB hard drive and an Intel Celeron processor.

Both devices can hold up to four Sata hard disks, while Fujitsu Siemens also fits 256MB flash memory, possibly to hold firmware, although that isn’t clear yet.

Belinea and Fujitsu Siemens join a slim line-up of devices sold with Microsoft’s Windows Home Server operating system. We’ve posted reviews of Tranquil’s WHS and one from HP - the latter of which resembles the 32cm-high o.center in stature.

Fujitsu Siemens' offering is more than twice the width of any other WHS device.

Medion’s Home Server was on display at Cebit but UK product manager Rick Munday said it would not sell the device until Microsoft fixed a data corruption flaw that can in rare circumstances scramble files.
