AMD has launched three new quad-core Opteron 1300 processors for single-socket servers and workstations.

The new Opteron 1352, 1354 and 1356 clock 2.1GHz, 2.2GHz, 2.3GHz respectively and can be a slot-in replacement for Opteron 1000-series processors.

AMD said Cray is shipping 1300-based XT4 supercomputers and upgrading others with the new processors. HP and Dell plan to incorporate the new processors into upcoming platforms.

Patrick Patla, director of AMD's server and workstation business, said the new quad-core "addressed the key customer priorities of performance, performance-per-watt and performance-per-dollar”.
