First UK firing

In the first case of its kind in Britain, an employee faces loosing his job for gross misconduct after commenting on his working life in a blog.

Joe Gordon, who worked in the Edinburgh branch of bookseller Waterstone's, wrote about his life in his blog entitled Woolamaloo Gazette. After criticisms of his employers he was bought before a tribunal but despite offering to withdraw the material and not mention work he was fired.

"Evil Boss f***ing me off by refusing my requests for a day's holiday on the 31st of December for my birthday and the first week of January off as I have taken for the last few years," one entry reads.

"Evil Boss then has cheek to ask me to work one of the bloody bank holidays in the week he refused me off. Noticing he has put me down for one of those days anyway, the sandal-wearing bastard. Words will be exchanged - if he gives me my birthday off I will do his bank holiday day. If not, he can kiss my magnificent Celtic ass, since it is voluntary."

A spokeswoman from Waterstone's told vnunet that the company could not comment as the case is ongoing. Mr Gordon has the right to have two further hearings by the company before any final decision was made, she said.
