Apple
has launched a
computer
recycling programme which offers US customers an environmentally friendly
way of disposing of their old computer when they buy a new Mac.
The firm said that its online and shop-based retail outlets will offer
customers the option of recycling their unwanted PCs, regardless of the
manufacturer.
If a customer chooses to participate in the programme, Apple will send an
email with instructions and a label for free shipping and recycling. Customers
simply package their old equipment and attach the label provided.
All equipment received by the programme is recycled domestically, and no
hazardous material is shipped overseas, according to Apple.
The company claimed that its recycling programmes have processed more than
9,500 tonnes of electronics worldwide since 1994.
