Nokia has extended its free Mobile Search software to users in Denmark, France, Italy, Norway and Spain.

As well as acting as a one-click directory enquiries service, Nokia Mobile Search also offers local searches and maps which can be shared by sending them in an MMS.

The service is designed for Nokia's N-series multimedia devices and phones based on the S60 platform.

Ralph Eric Kunz, Nokia's vice president of multimedia experiences, said that searching is the favourite activity among its users and that Nokia wanted to be the one to provide that function.

"Our collaboration with leading content providers is now bringing information and entertainment to the pockets of millions," he said.

"They won't have to waste any time finding a hair salon, dentist or pub, whatever town they are in."

The software will be included in standard sales packs of compatible Nokia phones, as well as being available as a free download for S60 devices from the Nokia Mobile Search website.

Search results include relevant contact data, allowing users to save the information directly to their contacts or call the number with a click of a button.

Users in France and Sweden will also be able to locate friends or family with a people search option.
