The trade body, which represents mobile phone operators and manufacturers
across the world, told the
BBC
that the proposals were "deeply flawed".
European Commission officials intend to tackle the high cost of roaming by
introducing a cap on the costs mobile operators can charge each other for calls,
and limiting the profit margin the firms can charge consumers.
"The Commission is trying to force uniform prices across Europe and dictate
what are acceptable returns to business through regulation," Rob Conway, chief
executive of the GSM Association, told the BBC.
The Commission has created a website offering advice and help to consumers
that want to
reduce
their roaming costs.
