Sony
president Ryoji Chubachi claims that the consumer technology company is still on
target to ship two million PlayStation 3 units before the end of 2006.
Chubachi said that it was true that availability has been a bottleneck, but
that the target was still achievable. "We do not need to revise our shipment
targets," he said.
In its original prediction, Sony had expected to offer
two
million units at launch. However, Sony still expects to ship six million
PS3s by the end of the company's financial year in March 2007.
Chubachi spoke after concerns were raised that Sony would not meet its
already reduced target.
The next-generation games console has been dogged by development and
production problems.
Poor stock levels mean that the European launch of the console has been
pushed back until
March
next year.
