Samsung claims it has made a
breakthrough that has created the first 64GB Nand Flash memory card.
The company said the technology could be expanded to see a 128GB Flash memory
card produced by 2009.
That planned amount of storage equates to 80 DVD movies or 32,000 MP3s.
"This has the biggest storage capacity of a single memory chip ever developed
in the world," Kwon Hyosun, senior manager at Samsung Electronics' investor
relations department, told AFP.
Hyosun said the new memory card would help create a $20bn (£9.8bn) market
until 2011 by unlocking the power of existing technology such as mobile phones,
MP3 players and digital cameras.
