Online video continues to be an increasingly attractive way for US surfers to
pass the time, according to traffic monitoring firm comScore.
Americans watched 11.5 billion online videos during March, a 13 per cent jump
on the previous month and a 64 per cent gain on March 2007.
Google has further extended its share in the online video market following a
surge in people watching clips on YouTube.
YouTube accounted for 98 per cent of all videos viewed at Google sites, which
took a 38 per cent share of the market with 4.3 billion videos viewed.
Fox Interactive Media ranked second with 477 million videos (4.2 per cent),
followed by Yahoo sites with 328 million (2.9 per cent) and Viacom Digital with
249 million (2.2 per cent).
According to comScore's figures, the average online video viewer watched 235
minutes of video over the course of the month. The average online video duration
was two minutes 48 seconds.
