The Barack Obama campaign team has started advertising for web specialists to help in the senator's forthcoming bid for the White House.

A job posting is looking for experts in search engine marketing and optimisation, online media planning, Flash design, advert optimisation and web video editing.

"Obama for America seeks interactive marketing managers to work at its campaign headquarters in downtown Chicago," the ad reads.

"We're looking for internet experts who strongly support Barack Obama for President and have expertise."

Online activity during this year's presidential campaign has become increasingly important, and small donations have added up to big sums.

Republican Ron Paul broke records with his online fundraising despite having less than 10 per cent national support.
