MXI unveils hardware-encrypted USB drives

Portable storage gets dedicated security processor

Portable security firm MXI Security hopes to end the scourge of vital information being lost on USB memory sticks, with the release of three new Stealth M-Series drives which include a dedicated hardware security processor.

The Bluefly security chip is designed to protect against all forms of malware, and features a secure multi-user mode as well as advanced manageability capabilities such as device recycling and remote access.

The drives are available in capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, and the enclosure is durable, waterproof and dustproof, the company claims.

"Stealth M-Series is a revolution in portable secure storage and digital identity," said Lawrence Reusing, chief executive at MXI Security. "Affordable, fast and secure, these devices are the ultimate safeguard for protecting critical assets."

"The personal portable security device has the potential to solve many enterprise security problems by providing strong authentication for a broad palette of enterprise applications, and encrypted storage for sensitive information," said Mark Diodati, senior identity and security analyst at Burton Group.

"The device comes in a mobile, familiar form factor that enterprise users love - the USB thumb drive - with added benefits."

Recent research by the Identity Theft Resource Center revealed that only 2.4 per cent of organisations that lost data during 2008 had encryption or other strong protection methods in place.

The Stealth M-Series is available now in managed and unmanaged options.
